WHAT TO EXPECT

PSR is primarily an educational-work centered program that provides satisfying educational, social and work experiences.

This program is founded on a number of assumptions including three that are considered essential:

1. People are motivated by a desire to master new skills which will allow them to feel more independent and self confident.

2. People are capable of adapting their behavior to meet their basic needs and desires.

3. People have the right and responsibility for self determination.

Staff provide case management, gather information, generate needed resources and services, ensure a positive and supportive member driven environment and facilitate involvement of others such as family, friends, volunteers, educators, and employers to form a partnership aimed at providing support and positive feedback.

A comprehensive assessment is conducted to assist members in identifying strengths, desires and personal goals. Staff actively encourage peer supported self discovery and self directed personal growth. Care is provided in an intimate environment. Staff focus on building quality relationships that are based on mutual respect. If the member can’t do a certain thing, staff do it for them, modeling the skill and providing opportunity for practical exercise. Members are supported as they move past their apprehension to try new things and increasingly take on the challenge of facing daily responsibilities with increased confidence.

OBJECTIVE

To facilitate an increased level of functioning, personal confidence and ultimately a higher quality of life by providing a variety of positive, personally satisfying, vocational, educational and social experiences.
